Hey You!

My name is Liz, I am the Founder of the Confident Coach Club and I am so glad you are here.

Why?

Because you know you are meant for more. These days, your life as it is doesn’t feel good enough anymore. You are craving more joy, more abundance, more freedom and flexibility. More of everything.

And you have a vague idea of how to get there. You want to become a coach who helps other people transform their lives. Just like you are doing for yourself. You are extremely passionate about helping others and working with people in a deep way.

And you know you can help. You always had a natural gift for seeing what needs to be done. You see the things other people can’t see for themselves. And you intuitively know how to get them to see it too.

Which is why your friends have told you multiple times that you’d make a great coach.

And you know this is what you want.

But you are just a little overwhelmed. You don’t really know where to start.

Do you need to get certified?

Do you need a website?

How do you go about getting clients?

And what is coaching really and how do you explain it to others?

Can you really get paid for talking to people?

You know you want to explore coaching as a career path. But right now, you are confused and don’t know which steps to take first.

You are also a little afraid and nervous about everything and questioning if coaching is a real thing and if you are cut out for it.

And on top of it all, you are struggling to find the time and mental clarity to sit down and think about it all.

I see you, I feel you, and I have been there.

Starting out on the journey to becoming a coach feels scary, confusing and overwhelming.

But don’t worry, I got you!

On this page you will find everything you need to get started on your journey to becoming a coach. I’ve compiled a step-by-step starter guide for you that you can work through on your own pace. For each step, I’ve listed out helpful resources to help you through the step and get one step closer to running a successful coaching business. And last but not least, I’ve included the answers to the most common questions aspiring coaches have in an easy to understand and honest way.

I have been there, I have done it and all you need is right here on this page.

Let’s begin.

Your 3-Step Action Plan

I know you feel confused and overwhelmed right now, but running a successful coaching business is actually a lot closer than you think! I’ve personally grown my own coaching business from $0 to $6k+ per month in just 2 months (read more about my story here) and many of my clients have done the same.

Here is what to do, step by step:

Step 1: Learn How to Coach

The first step to becoming a successful coach is unsurprisingly learning how to coach. If you are reading this page, chances are you have a natural gift for helping people and have informally coached friends, family and colleagues before. This does not mean you need to invest in an expensive and time-intensive certification or training program but you DO need to learn basic coaching skills and tools before you can move on to the next step!

Step 2: Practice Coaching

After you’ve acquired some essential coaching skills, it’s time to put it all into practice by coaching people for free. This will help you discover if coaching really is for you, what type of coaching you want to do and in which areas you still need more training. Plus, it will help you build the necessary confidence to start charging for your coaching.

Step 3: Pick a Coaching Niche

The Coaching Market has become inceasingly competitive the last few years. Thus, nobody really hires a “Life Coach” anymore. Instead, clients like to hire coaches that are the expert in a certain field. That’s why it’s crucial for the success of your coaching business to pick a profitable niche that fits your strengths and passions.

Now that you have a bird's eye view on what to do, let's dive deeper into each step:

Step 1: Learn How to Coach

Coaching itself is an incredibly powerful skill but it’s actually not that hard to learn. All it takes is a good understanding of what coaching is (and what’s the difference to other helping professions such as therapy, counselling, consulting and mentoring) PLUS acquiring the most important coaching skills such as deep listening, asking the right questions and using coaching tools.

In most countries including the US, UK and Australia you don’t need a certification to start a coaching business which means anyone can call themselves a “coach”. Because of this, I don’t usually recommend aspiring coaches to invest in an expensive coaching certification program right away. Instead, I tell them to spend a few weeks immersing themselves in all the resources they can find to learn about what coaching is and train themselves (see our favourite resources below).

And while you are learning about coaching, take a moment to reflect on what you’ve learned and ask yourself honestly if coaching is for you. You’d be surprised how many clients come to me thinking they want to start a coaching business but once they actually understand what coaching really is, they realize it’s not for them and they prefer consulting, speaking or creating online courses. And even though you can do all these things as a coach as well, it’s important to get clear on what the main business activity and income stream will be for you.
